Salvador Dali
Salvador Dali, Spanish born surrealist painter, was blessed with a talent for
inspirational thinking. Known as a leader in the surrealist movement, he study art at
the San Fernado Academy  of Fine  Arts in Madrid. His first one man show was held in
1925 in Barcelona, where he gained early recognition. Much of his early work was
depicting  the foothills of Spain  near his home.(Often referred to as Dali Land).


His interpretations of surrealism brought him recognition. The Persistence of Memory  is still
considered a milestone for the surrealist moment and  Dali as an artist. He was expelled from the
Paris group however, when he became fascinated with Hitler.
In 1928 he won international
attention with his painting
?The Basket  of Bread?.
In 1940  he traveled to the
United States where he and
Gala had the art world  in
amazement  of their antics. Dali
moved away from his surrealist
period and moved into his
classical , now obsessed with the
flow of time, science and
religion.
He and Gala returned to Spain where
he made a comfortable living on
collectors privately buying his works.
After the death of Gala, Salvador could
not cope and his health failed slowly
over the next two years. He died in
Spain in 1989.
Among his best known works are
The Hallucinogenic Toredor,
Persistence of Memory, and the
Sacrament of the Last Supper.

Artist to Study
In 1929 ,he fell in love with a married
woman Gala  Eluard, who  had the
most influence  on his life.That year he
joined the Paris Surrealist Group .
